OTAGO.

Mr. Studholme returned this week from his overland expedition to Otago. The Waitaki was much swollen, and he had to leave, his horse on the south side, and to cross on a moki, or flax canoe. Mr. Volpy and Mr. Studholme's hi'otlier are on their way hither with a herd of cattle, but will probably be detained several months on the road, the rivers being now swollen with the melted snows for the season. We are indebted to Mr. Stiidhohne for the " Witness" of the Bth of Oct., from which we glean the following news. The three members returned by Otago to the House of Representatives are, John Cabgill, son of Cap. Cargill r the Superintendent of Otago ; William Cutten a son-in-law of Captain Cargill, and editor of the " Ot:ig*o Witness ;" and James Macanduew, of the firm of Macandrew & Co., of Dunedin. All three are staunch supporters of the " class" character of the Free Kirk settlement, and have been constantly opposed to the arbitrary system of government under Sir George Grey. The " Rajah" from England, arrived at Otago, on the sth October, with about 70 passengers for that place, and 28 for Wellington. She had received considerable damage in a storm off Van Diemen's Land, involving the loss of her boats, and damage to her bulwarks and poop. The necessary repairs would probably detain her until Christmas. .The "Rajah" left England on the 15th of June, and has a mail for Canterbury which may be shortly expected by the " Endeavour."
