SUPREME COUNCIL AT CANTERBURY.
The following letter has been addressed to Messrs. Hart and Ross, lawyers at Wellington, who applied to His Excellency respecting the establishment of Sessions of the Supreme Court in this settlement:—
Colonial Secretary''s Office, Wellington, February 9, 1852. Gentlemen,—Your letter of the 3rd instant, representing the necessity of a Circuit Court being established at Canterbury, having been referred by the Governor-in-Chief to the Executive Council, His Excellency directs me toinform you, that, in accordance with their advice, a Circuit Court will be appointed for that district after consultation with the Judges as to the times and place at which it should be held, and of which notice will of course be given in the Government Gazette. I have the honour to be, Gentlemen, your obedient humble servant, (Signed) Alfred Domett, Colonial Secretary.
