AUCKLAND.
We find, in looking through the Neto Zealander of April sth, that most interesting testimonials had been presented to Captain John Williams, of the barque " Cress well ;" by the merchants of Auckland, for the despatch with which he had landed his cargo; and by his passengers, for his " unremitting attention to the duties of the ship, and to their immediate comforts during the voyage," the latter document also expressing their sense of his "peculiar fitness for the command of a passenger ship."
The " William Hyde," for London, had nearly completed her loading, having shipped a quantity of -wool and copper ore. She was expected to sail about the 7th of April.
Corporal Hyde, of the 58th, who had been superintending the experimental operations at Matakana, had come to town, supposing that his leave of absence had expired ; it had, however, been renewed for a month. He did not make any formal report, but it was believed that he entertained very strong hopes of being successful, although up to that period coal had liot been leached.
