JOURNAL OF THE WEEK
The " Otago" schooner, which arrived from Wellington on Friday, has brought 17,000 feet of timber, besides sundries, for this place.
Christchurch is busier than usual; a part of the road to Oxford, as far as Riccarton Bush, having been commenced within the past week. This bit of road, will, when completed, greatly benefit both the sawyers and the townsfolk, by enabling sawn timber and firewood to be conveyed to the town at a much cheaper rate than at present.
In consequence of a temporary bridge having been thrown across the swamp between the new road and the Land-Office, that road has been chosen as a promenade by the inhabitants of Christchurch, who on Sunday last might have been seen enjoying with undeniable zest the advantage thus afforded them.
The present scarcity of ham and bacon in Lyttelton, is an inconvenience which, we are convinced, needs only to be mentioned to be speedily remedied.
