THE LYTTELTON ©ollegtau ©rammar<-'&ci)ool. rpHIS Department of the COLLEGE -*- has been commenced, and will for some time be carried on in the School-room at Lyttelton, under the care of the Classical Professor of the College. Boys will be received from the age of 7 to 15. It will be necessary that they should at least be able to read with ease previous to their admission. The course of instruction will embrace the Greek and Latin Classics, Ancient and Modern j History, Ecclesiastical History, and Geography, Arithmetic, Algebra, and Euclid, Vocal Music, Drawing, and French ; and, above all, the Doctrines of the Christian Religion, as expounded by the United Church of England and Ireland. The terms will be two guineas a quarter for Day-scholars, to be paid in advance, and to commence on Lady-day, with an additional payment of 2s. 6d. per quarter in the lower, forms, and ss. per quarter in the upper, for the use of books, of which an ample supply will be provided. Arrangements will be made for the reception of Boarders, as soon as circumstances will ad' mit of the School being transferred to Christchurch. The terms for Boarders to be fixed hereafter. The hours will be, for the future, from 9 to 12 in the morning, and from 2 to half-past 4 in the afternoon, except on Saturdays, which are whole holidays. There will be longer holiday's twice in the year for a period of five weeks at each time, together with one week at Easter, An Assistant-Master has been appointed, and has already entered upon his duties. He will teach, more especially, Writing, Arithmetic, Drawing, and Singing. In connection with this School, and in order to meet a want which, it is believed, is extensively felt, it is intended to ;form a class of little boys and girls, paying Is. each per week, and to be under the immediate tuition of the Assistant-Master. This Class may be regarded as Preparatory, in thecase of the boys, to the Grammar School, and in that of the Girls, to the sister institution, which it is proposed to establish, in course of time, for the education of young gentlewomen.
