This Day. Much dissapointment has been felt by the yolunteers at the Government not sending the Hinemoa to convey them to the prize firing that takes plaee at Wellington, Twenty-five representatives wotild have gone. It is now doubtful whether any will go on account of the extra expence. The Auckland Yolunteers are making great preparations for a monster encampment at Easter, Mr McLoughlin, of Papatoetoe, has offered the use of a large paddock and stables, free of charge, and will undertake to supply meat and other provisions, if they are required. M- Eemenyi gaye the first of his concerts last night and created quite a furor.
The outward mail steamer City of Sydney arrived yesterday from Sydney. Among the passengers was Lord Elphinstone who goes to the Hot Lake for the benefit of his health. The steamer left again for San Eransisco last night. A native chief named W ahanui has sent a message to the Native Minister stating that the maories are quite prepared to have the first sod of the railway turned whenever the Government think fit. An inquest was held yesterday on the body of Eobert Clarke, who was knocked over and killed by a tram car on Monday. A verdict of accidental death was returned. The jury said that no blame could be attached to the driver of the car. The English detectivs, with the warrant for the arrest of William Sheehan tlie accused in the Castletownroche murder case, is expected to arrive here tomorrow, by the Arawata.
