CHRISTCHUCRH

This day. J. W.Crabbe, a prisonei undergoing a sentance of thirteen years in Lyttleton jail, made a most desperate attemp t to escape yesterday afternoon. He was fired at by the warder Gilehrist but missed. Crabbe gave his pursuers a hot chase for about a mile. He was eventually captured close to the waters edge, at the foot of a twentytwo foot precipice, down which he had dropped. He was very much exhausted when captured.
