The Government steamship Stella left Wellington for Tauranga yesterday morning, at half past nine. Since 1881, colonial loans raised in London reach to over sixty millions of pounds. A Cabinet Council on the West C'oast Railway was held on Saturday at the Govenor's residence at Christchurch. The German Admiralty considers 150 torpedo boats necessary for the defence of the German coasts.
Mr R. T. Booth the celebrated temperance lecturer commences his crusade against the drink traffic, in the Theatre Royal, Auckland, to-night. Alfred Morgan, who had luncheon rooms at a recent Wellington fete and supplied beer, has been fined £10 for selling without a license. Livingstone, of Dunedin, andFox,of Christchurch, had a three-mile race at Dunedin on Saturday last, which was won by Livingstone, who gave his opponent 150 yards start. A corrospondent writes. — I notice in this morning' s issue of the "Buster" that Mr Booth the Blue-ribbonite arrived by the Bingarooma on Wednesday, and your paper said the Bingarooma arrived on Tuesday. Which am Ito beleive? [Us of course.— Ed.] A full attendance of members is requested at the meeting of the Mutual Improvement Association which takes place io-nk ht, there is business ■ of the utmost importance to be transacted relating to the suspension of meetings during the summer months.
