THE LITTLE UN.

Multum in parvo.

Tuesbay, December 9th, 1884. The notice of motion given at the last meeting of the County Council bv Cr Lee anent a proposed wharf on the eastern side of the harbour, has been the subject of mueh comment, and has been generally condemned on yarious grounds. It is rather a novel proposal, seeing that the Council is in a most impecunious state, and likely to continue so, and tliese kind of w/rks cannot be done without money. Further. It is not required, as , e . the railway comes, which it surely will, there will be ample wharf accommodation provided at the terminus. The suggestion that the funds eouid be obtained under the Eoads and Bridges Construction Act, is absurd on the face of it. It would be better for the interests of the district, if, instead of propounding impossible schemes, the Council confined their discussion to their legitimate work of opening up the country, and enconraging settlements.
