A London cable to-day announces the death of William O’Brien, the Irish Nationalist. Mr O’Brien was 73 and was an outstanding figure in Irish affairs in his generation. lie founded the papers known as “United Ireland” and the “Irish People,” and was the founder ,of the United Irish League. Mr O’Brien was prosecuted nine times for his activities and imprisoned for over two years. Elected to the House of Commons, for Cork City in 1910, he retired in 1918. Among his literary works was his ’’Reminscences” (190 G) and a book on Parnell (1926^.
