British Shipping.
PURCHASE BY AMERICAN GOVERNMENT. Received this day, 1.45 p.m. New York, November 20. It is understood, that the United States Government's offer to purchase 720,000 grosis tons of British shipping from tlie International Mercantile Marine Company has been accepted. Tlie United States offered the sanie price as a big British syndicate tih'at was negotiating for the ships.
