Starvation, daily air raids and diefeats on the battlefield, combined with the collapse of Germany's alii.'-, reduced tli i people of Cologne to desperation and they nave got completely out of hand, displaying intense hatred of military commanders. As a result of the calling of recruits from factories, thirty of them were shot in one instance for mutiny. A grenfe meeting of workmen passed a resolution in favour of a revolution unless the Kaiser abdicated within a fortnight. Subsequently they marched in procession through the streets shouting for the revolution. They broke into the museums and cut tflie portraits of the Hohenzollerns to ribbons. . Soldiers refused to attack them and threw down their rifles. The officers were helpless and retired. The mob hoisted the Red Flag on public buildings. The police were largely sympathetic and did not interfere.
The turbulent day ended with an air raid which killed and injured many and caused great damage. [Dutch observers say it is impossible to check the anti-Kaiser movement. The Crown Prince is certain to Share his father's downfall as nobody is morP detestedi in Germany. Germans declare the Kaiser has gone to Belgium 111 order the more eapJly to slip across the Butch frontier and seek an asylum in the event of a revolution.
