Concert.

The concert given in. the Century • Hall on Thursday evening waw well attended! and a varied and interesting programme was presented to ian appreciative audience. The. Rev. J. H. 'Ha.*htm was a man of many parts, foo; throughou'; tlie evening he either gave* or shared in most of the ibems. Miss _ -Pirint, ia. young lady from Buimytliorpe, assisted in instrumental selections, acted as accompanist and contributed songs. Possessing a fresh sweet voice, her singing of the pongs now popular with the boy at the front was very acceptable to lilie 'audience. One of the most pleasing features of thei evening was the rendering of the trio, ''Memory," by Mrs fiillens, Mfcs Gray and lie v. Haslam. Tlie very fine d'uete "Watchman, what- of tihe night?" amd "T!he Battle Eve" were sung with good execution by Mr W. Hughes and the ■Rev. Haslam, well merited encoree being received for both items.. Mrs Billens was heard to good effect in "The Enchantress," and in response to an, encore gave "Worth WK:3e." In tlhie instrumental pieces, a trio was nicely played, tlie performers being Mr 'L«sto r • cornet), Rev. Haslam (violin) and Miss P.rinfj (pdano). Three recitations were/ rrivon by Mr Haslam—tlie more humourous one of tlie three, a. sketch or tramp life by St. John Adcocik, entitled "Jonah," seeming to 'highly amuse a large section of the audience, airs .1. G. Nation ass'i-.-ted as accompanist, lne proceedings were brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
