Lowering The Lake,
THE MAORI OBJECTIONS. During 1 the rainy season the foundations put in at Lake Horowhenua for a boat- house and landing stage have mostly been under water, and, as in previous .years, soirne of the land bordering 1 on tlie Lake has been flooded. The 1 Lake Domain Board has many times discussed the problem' of lowering tho Lake or keeping it at a normal level. Tlie County Engineer (Mr Maleolmj has outlined a sch?)ine of locks in t|he Kokio stream whereby the water in the Lake could be lowered in winter and retained, if desired in slimmer, but the financial difficulty has proved a stumbling block that, cannot be overcome up to the present, even if the Maori objec.ttions to interference with their eel weirs could be removed. At the, motion of Mr F. Parker a special mieeting of the BoUrd was held on Friday night to discuss the whole question.
