A father who appeared before the Second Canterbury Military Service' Board in furtherance of an appeal for the return of a soil on furlough to New Zealand, after four years on active service, said he could lay claim to having the largest family of any man man. in -New Zealand (reports the Chriatchureh "Star"). He liad been fiftythree yearn in the Dominion, ancl had. twenty-four children. Five of hif? sons had gone away at once, at the beginning of the war, and two had been, killed. Tn reply to a question, lie said he had been married twice. "I have eleven daughters married, I might tell, you, Mr Chairman,",he continued. "I. don't want to delay the war, but I would like this son back for a while,, mid he can return i'j-.uii." The father said he had been farming for iifty years, wlut'li brought forth the continent' from the chairman (Mr H. "W".. Bishoo) that he had tiono very gooS work." The Board deci'd'eo! to recommend tree months' furlough on full pay for the soldier son.
