Correspondence.

(To the Editor). Sir, —"Wee Mac," in Tuesday's issue, gives a rather illogical com. plaint about the refusal of the Borough Council to \make a certain footpath. I live in a street, sir, that has no footpaths, has a very meagre coating of metal on it, has sundry holes or depressions which fill with rain water, but we don't complain; we (realise that Levin was not built in a day, and .that there is only a certain amount of money to spend on new works every year, and I give the Councillors credit for a fair apportion nieut of the-moneys available to the most necessary works. The proposal to take a third of the cost of new footpaths from residents benefit ed by new work is an excellent one, but to be a workable scheme must be applied all over the Borough. I am not a member of the Borough Council, but I sympathise with them in their thankless task. "Wee Mac" says "If the Borough is, financially poor, then why do tliey vote moj iiev or time for golf or other ven I tures outside the Borough work." | "Wee Mac" should be sure that i he knows before he rushes into" print. The Borough' Council has not. spent anything on golf. The ! golf links are formed on the Levin : Domain, the Borough Councillors are appointed by the Government l as the governing body of the Domain, and administer its affairs , and ! finance entirely independent of the Borough, and have not and •"are never likely to spend any of the "Borough rates on it. Yours, etc., DINKUM.
