The State Advances Board wrote stating - that £000 had been forming anil metalling the Otawhiwiii road (Koputaroa). The request of Mr Blenkhorn oil behalf of the Gorringe estate to have private crossing known as Barber's at Koputaroa converted into a public crossing was agreed to. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer (Mr Malcolm) reported as follows : — Te Horo riding: Nothing is doing in the riding but maintenance; it is being fairly well looked after. The bridge on the Man-gaone-Te Horo road that I thought we could manage for another year will have to be replaced at once. I have ordered the timber for a new superstructure anil will get it put 011 as soon las it is on the ground. I inspected the erosion taking place 011 the property of Messrs Reid Bros and reported to the Public Trustee; it is serious in my opinion and should be seen to at once. From reports that I have just received very little damage to the Otaki Gorge road was done by the stormy weather a fortnight ago; in fact I may say the same about the whole county; hardly a slip containing a yard of stuff came down anywhere. Otaki Riding: There is now nothing but maintenance in thfs riding. Wirokino Riding : This is the riding where the work is being done at present. I have a small party of about five with the foreman and we are proposing to take eacli road in its turn and put it in good order. At present the most work is being done on the Foxton road as the metalling is ,cooing on there and we are keeping the scarifier and roller going. I have also been able to raise a team, for the grader and unless we are compelled to hold over for •1 time as we promised to lend the grader to the Trustees of the Mcdonald estate, I will do the principal grader, work throughout the County at once. Tokomaru Riding: There is nothing to report in this riding; the main road is in very fair order; I daily expecting some timber to was over it the other day. - I ain daily expecting some timber to repair tlie Shannon-Foxton and Tokomaru Valley road bridges, but if seems to be difficult to get. The flood a fortnight ago put a stop to all motor traffic and mostly all other traffic for a few days; this is a subject that will have to be tackled in the near future as it will never do to have the main County road go near "Wellington blocked with floods for days when the most of them could be got over by raising a mile or two of road two or three feet, but I suppose the matter better stand over until the war is clone.
