Otaki Races.
PIRST DAY RESULTS. The Otaki Maori Racing Club's Winter Meeting opened yesterday in perfect weather. There was a very largo attendance, tlie most popular mode of travelling being per motor car, some hundreds of cars being on the course. Toddy got the best of an indifferent start and carried on from Money Moon and Utuwai. Well up the straight the field closed up, and in the race to the post Primato, who came fast from tlie turn, got through and won fairly comfortably from Utuwai, who beat Toddy over the last 50 yards for second xjlace, Broad Arrow fourth. Trickery was first out, followed by Galore, the latter dropping out at the home turn, wlicre Piano, Woodlark, and Wapping joined in. Trickery cavcd in a few yards from the post, and in a good set to between the placed horses, Woodlark got the verdict by a head from Piano, who 'was a length in front of Wapping, a head in front of Trickery, fourth. O'Council) 9.9, 10 Gwynne (Burt) 9.7. 12 Miss Lark (T. Hogg) 9.7. Foeman and Yellow and Black were the first to show out, followed by Arlington. These three carried on "all the way round the back. Going past tlie stand the first time the order was still the same. At the next fence Gwynne fell, and Onipoto broke down at the back of the course, and Dasher Boy lost his feet. Coming into the straight the last time the order was Foeman, Arlington, Gaekwar, the latter coming very fast. In the race to, the post, however, he ran off the course, leaving Foeman to win comfortably from Arlington, who was just ahead of Waioture. Expedition was fourth. None of the horses or riders who came to grief were hurt, although Onipoto, who was well backed, walked in very lame. Time., 0.32 3-5. RAUKAWA CUP, £500, 1J miles. 7MrS. W. Corlett) 7.10, 10 Moutoa Queen (McCarten) 7.9, 13 Battle Song (T. Young) 7.6, 9 Kiltcss (C. Reid) 7.0, 2 Baghdad (L! Berry) 6.12, 16 Bronk Delaval (E. Eeid) 6.10, 14 Borsil (R. S. Bagby)'6.7, 15 Merrie Gain (Mancer) 6.7, 8 Fore (L. Morris) 6.7, Kiltess and Baghdad were the first to show out and carried on to the four furlong post, with Trials in close attendance. Kiltess was done i with at the three furlong post, where Orleans made a forward- move, and came into the straight with Baghdad and Trials, and a few yards further on was in front, staying there to win by two lengths from Trials. Detroit, who caniil from a long way back, was close up third, Baghdad fourth. Turar.gapito and Gold Soult did not leave the mark. Time, 2.15. OTAKI HACK HANDICAP, £120, 1 mile. 8 Mrs S. H. Reid) 7.10, 10 Pomeroy (McEwen) 7.9, 4 Rienzi (L. Morris) 7.4. Mill Queen, Blue Gown, and Quinn's Post carried on from a bunched field for the greater part of the journey. At the entrance to the straight the two latter dropped back, Torchlight and Moutoa Camp taking their places. In the race to the post Mill Queen held her qwn, and stalling off all" opposition won handsomely by half a length, Torchlight the same dis'""cc in front of Moutoa Camp, Black Hill close np fourth. Stratton) 6.i1. 15 Bairnsdalc (G. McEwen) 6.7, 13 Coropett (t. Rayner) R. 7. Rude and Coropett were first out, and led alternately to the homo turn, -where they wove joined by Astrophcl. These three were in line all the way up tlio straight until a few yards from the post,, where Astrophcl got his head in front and von by a neck from Rude, who was just ahead of Sardinia, Coropett fourth.
