covenng the year's opcs.'.'ioa-i: Mr Blenkhorn read the iirst annual report stating the Association was incorporated under the War Funds Act in June, 1917, and the Executive had gc ri rea son to be satisfied with the result of their first year's operations.

The loyal co-operation of Hid various Societies liacl succee 1.-ti in placing the Association 011 a firm and satisfactory basis and th.3 Management was encouraged to hope that its funds would shortly become proportionate! to ihe wealth and importance of the district. No diminution of t ne usefulness of the local Societies had resulted from tlie formation of the Association, and they continued to do useful work in grafting temporary assistance and aiding the many admirable institutions working for the boys at the front. The total ->mount received by the Association up to March 31 was £4200 13s (id, since which date further amounts totalling £1137* 12s 8d Lave been obtained making the tot.il funds at this date £5338 9s 'He balance sheet showed ho.v th< so moneys had been invested. Attention was drawn to iJUSS put into the War Loan and V-i.OOO in the Post Office Savings B:>nk thus giving the country the benefit of the use of these moneys when it most wants it and at tile same time benefiting f he Association by yielding a fair rate of interest. A 'very large proportion of these moneys hava 1.-een obtained during the first year of the ABOciation's work, ant! reflected the greatest credit on iliein, more especially when account is taken of the liberal support uHerded to every one of the numerous calls which are daily made on them for like purposes. Mr Andrew paid a glowing tribute to Mr Blenkhorn's work, which was endorsed by Mr Atkins, who referred to the value of the chairman's legal knowledge. Mr F P. Walkley moved a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman and referred to the fact that as secretary he had„ found the chairman always willing and anxious to dc everything to help the AsscciaMr Howell seconded the "sote of thanks anjil added Mr W-Jjk-ley's name to the mot on, sajr'ig tliat the latter gentleman worked because he could not help it.
