Brown Rot
HOW TO STOP IT. Orchardists are urged to take strongmeasures for controlling brown rot (ripe rot) during the dormant season, and to follow up the treatment as tlie season advances. For this purpose clean up tlic orchard as thoroughly as possible, and above everything else, gather and destroy all mummified fruit. Plough the orchard after the foliage has fallen, thoroughly covering all leaves, ete., and dig over those parts missed by the plough.
Spray with a winter fungicide, limosulplmr 1-.15, or preferably 8-6-40 bordeaux, when the buds show pink, not earlier. Apply thoroughly at a pressure n.f not Joss than 200 lbs to the square inch (this is essential). Spray ag:>iu when two-thirds or most of the have fellen. with 1-50 lime-si-lohur.. or Slbs to lOlbs atomic sulphur, to 100 gallons of water. The frviit should be well thinned, and all diseased fruit removed and destroyed. It is also advisable to keep the fruit well covered with spray as it approaches the ripening stage.
This treatment will effectively control of er fungus diseases attacking stone fruit trees such as rust, shot-hole fungus, etc.
