The British have recaptured Meterem but have withdrawn fhe front* at St. Eloi and certain positions around Ypres. The Germans have reached the slopes of Kemmell. London, April 17, .1.25 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Meterem remains in our hands. AVe withdrew from an advanced position eastward of Ypres to a ney line. Later. The British have recaptured "Wytschaete and are now advance ing towards Neuve Eglise and Bailleul.
