Association of which he was a very consistent and generous supporter and tlie Patriotic Society, and indeed, all departments of patri- [ otic effort. He gave freely of his wealth to all deserving objects and was highly respected and esteemed by all his friends and acquaintances. The late Mr Kirkealdie was a member of a well-known AVellington family, and. was 39 years of age. For Mrs Kirkealdie and family the sineerest sympathy is felt in her bereavement. The funeral took place in T.evin yesterday. An inquest was liohl at Welling'ton into the circumstances of the deceased gentleman's death. The evidence showed that lie had been suffering for some months from periodical attacks of severe | mental depression. Wellington's big effort to aS" sist the lhietilii lire sufferers by way o7 a novel Easter egg competition has been 6xtended to Levin and eggs can be obtained until Saturday next at Mr C. S. Keed" wcll's pharmacy. The campaign is practically the same as the .sinprise packet crusades run in different parts of New Zealand for patriotic purposes except tliat the prizes are perhaps better than ever offered before. The attractions are headed by a Chevrolet motor car, wliile a sideboard, a iliamond ring and an emerald ring are also included in the 112 specials. Great care has been taken to remove any appearance of trickery, the Prime Minister (IU. Hon. AV. F. Massey) having presided over the distribution of Ihe prize tickets amongst the "''eggs'' in the presence of over 5000 people. A. large number of "eggs" have been sent to Levm and the spare shilling so invested may prove very profitable. It might be mentioned that the N.Z. Natives Association has organised this fund-raising effort, and has had unique opportunities of getting goods for the eggs, none of which ' contain either blanks or silly prizes. An announcement in regard to the matter appears on page 4 of this is•ue of the "Chronicle."
