More Supervision Wanted.
At Saturday's meeting of the Horowlienua County Council, Cr Law complained of the methods used iii putting metal on roads in the Tokomaru riding. He considered that clay should be put ou to blind the metal. A great deal of waste was going on as a result. He complained that the men on the roads did not do their work properly and had no Supervision. Cr Catley supported the complaint. He said there was no supervision over the men, and it was hard to find sometimes whether they had done anv work at all. / Cr Ryder spoke in similar t terms. ; Cr Murray said the whole thing resolved itself into 'having a? overseer to look after the men (Hear, hear). There was also the labour scarcity which was an extremely difficult matter. Cr McLeavey endorsed what had been said about the want of supervision. The Chairman said they had to remember tliat there were 100,000 of the best men out of the country and anyone who expected to have the work done as well as in tl>e past made a great mistake. He agreed that it was. Necessary to have an overseer and to work the men in gangs. It was hardly fair to expect the Engineer to be here, there and everywhere, seeing tha,t the men were doing their work. Th matter then dropped.
