COUNTY PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION.
The monthly meeting oi; the Horowhenua Oounty .Patriotic Association was held m Levm yesterday. Present — Messrs <J. Blenkhorn/ (chairman), I'. W. Goldsmith, (J. S. Jieedwell, k\ P. .Walkley (iion. secretary), and S. W. 13 road belt (Levin), G. N. Stephenson and iirs J. M. Uibson (Shannon), 1). It. Bathgate (Alanakau), L. St. George and i". Penn (Utaki), G. P. Catley (Te Roro), J. A. Austin (Waikanae).
As a result of communications from the chairman and secretary, the Public Trustee agreed to take investments at call for five years at 4J per cent, provided that only 15 per cent be paid on sums withdrawn before the five years expires, the interest to be so reduced from the end of the year preceding the withdrawal. It was decided to invest £1000 with, the Public Trustee on these terms.
Mr Penn reported that a patriotic carnival was being held at Otnki on February 20. Mr Stephenson reported that Sports and a baby voting compe- | tition was being held at Shannon on February 16: Mr Bathgate stated Manakau's effort would be held on March 20 .= —a gymkhana, sports, stalls and concert.
A sum of £13 7s 2d was received with thanks as the result of an entertainment given by the Otaki gymnasium club. An appeal for funds to give the Volunteer Nursing Sisterhood in Egypt a badly needed holiday was forwarded on from the Shannon Patriotic Society, and was referred to the Levin and District Society for consideration. , The Waikanae Society forwarded a donation of £5 to the. general fund.
The Te Horo Society forwarded £25 for the funds.
The Shannon Society forwarded £100 for the wounded soldiers' fund.
