The Defence authorities have decided that only unmarried men will go into camp during February and March. No married men of the Second Division will enter camp beforo. April.

The following cryptic ptiragraph appeared in the Christchurch "Press" on Tuesday:—A serious lire occurred at Lyttclton yesterday morning, considerable damage being done. The outbreak was subdued after a fight lasting some hours. The War Regulations forbid the publication of any details concerning the Arc.

As a result of representations to the British' Minister of Munitions by Hon. A. M. Myers, 497 tons of sheet iron, consisting of 347 tons o± corrugated and 150 tons of plain., will be released for use in New Zealand and is due to arrive shortly. The iron will he proportionately taken into store at the four chief centres and distributed for essential purposes. The price fixed is £70 per ton.

The death occurred at Waikanae on Monday of Mrs John Tanner, at the age of 51. Deceased was a daughter of tlie late Captain Win. H. Mac Donald, and her brother is Mr W. Mac Donald, of Otaki.

A New Plymouth Press wire states that Mr Hal Goodacre, proprietor of the Egmont Boot Factory, died very suddenly at his factory yesterday morning. His health has lately been indifferent, but was not regarded as serious. Death was evidently the result of a heart attack.
