Bled to Death.
A young man named Cecil 1. Cross, aged about 27 years, lost liis life last week under very sad circumstances. He was one of a. survey party working above 1 ipiriki in tlie 'vicinity of tlie bouse, boat. Tbe party was cutting tracks in tbe bush and in order to get a better view of tbe direction of tbe line, be climbed a liigb tree, taking a slasber with lum. As some branches were m bis line of vision be proceeded to cut them away, but tbe slasher struck another branch and was deflected on to bis arm, tbe result being that a nasty gash was inflicted and an artery severed, tie descended to the ground, and one of liis mates bandaged the arm and appeared to have stopped the bleeding. But as soon oa a start was made to get Cross out of the bush to secure medical aid, the bleeding recommenced. Uniortu■nately no member of the P art >" was proficient in first aid, and a efforts to stop tbe bleeding proved ineffectual, tlie result being ip tbe young man bled to death in five hours.
