Official: Aeroplanes crossed the Kentish and Essex coasts at 0.15 this evening-, Some reached the London district ail .. dropped bombs. < They also boiijbed Kent and Essex. Jleports as to casualties and"damage have not yet been Teceived. Our guns and aeroplanes engaged the enemy. Later-
Sudden gunfire announced an air raid to most Londoners just, at the time when most shops of business were closing and the theatres and music halls were opening. A barrage was immediately put tip and was marked by three spells of intense cannonading, which swept the skies with shrapnel.-
There f was a new moon and a starlight,, i ploudless night. Occasionally two or three searchlights were put up to assist the gunners. Many people; heard the Gothas plainly in the intervals of the shelling. The Londers quickly obeyed the "take cover" orders-
