SUNDAY TENNIS.

A .special mooting llio comniittoo of tlio Levin iLawn Tenuis Ciub was ill eld last evening. 'I lit- President, Mr C. Blonkhorn, presided and seven members were present. Mr Blenkhorn addiresscd the meeting oil the Smif'lay tenniis question and stated tho objections thereto ,appealing to the club not to press the matter. He then moved : "That the committee .after due consideration decides that Sunday tennis sihould not he allowed, and trusts that the members will loyally abide l by this decision." Tho motion ivas .seconded/ by Mr Por. ter and was dieseuFKod at considerable length by those present. On being put to the vote the motion was carried by four votes to three. (To tlio Editor.} Sir. — I have read the letters of Marco Fosella and: "A Returned Soldier." One fact stands out clear and distinct upon the face of both these letters and that fact is that there arc people so lost to the .sp'rit of the ago as t> attack one of the greatest boons we enjoy, viz., the worker's <l:iy of r.cst. They make belief that the rest dav is only an institution for religion,- people, ignoring the fact that, by our progressive legislation we have made extra .proviVion 'in the weekly hall holiday and also shortened' the "flours of labour, and that, if it were not For the waste caused by militarism, drink, gambling, and other vices, we could easily extend the half holiday to a lull holiday for recreation Kind elevating purposes. Therefore I say tlliat thor-e who attack our d,ay of rest are the enemies of an enlightened democracy, and our Mayor, ill the light of the trend of advancement is amply justified in opposing this encroachment upon the workers' rights. There are other phases of t'his Mibject, but the one T have mentioned is, in my opinion, ample justification for the action and attitude of our Mayor upon this question, and T am very pleased to add my approval to his action in resisting this innovation. I am. ete. JAMES PROUSIE.
