Household Hints.

A good method of removing tannin stains from teacups is to make a pasty mixture with salt and strong acetic acid. Apply this with a cloth, and after the stain is blcached out the cups should be washed and dried in the ordinary way. If a pipe leaks .take equal parts of yellow soap, finely shredded, and the whiting that you buy in packets and use for cleaning silver. Mix to a thick paste with a little cold water, and plaster this firmly over the hole, pressing it well on. It's a fine makeshift stopping mixture. To sew dress-clips in position, so that they match exactly, sew on, first of all the halves that have the little knobs. When theso are in position, chalk tho knobs, fold the other side of tho garment over tho first side, and the chalked knobs will leave a mark which will servo as a guide for sewing on the other parts of the clips. To wash a gold chain, make a lather of soap and water, and to it add a few drops of ammonia. Soak the chain in tho lather for a few minutes, and then scrub it gently with a soft brush. Rinso the chain in clean, lukewarm water, and placc it in hot sawdust or bran until it is quite dry. Use whiting, the kind that one buys at oilshops in 2d packets, for cleaning an enamelled bath instead of buying special powder for it. Take a damp cloth, dip it in whiting, and with this rub the bath, and the stains come off as if by magic. Whon making loose cover of cretonne or chintz, use dress-slips instead of tapes for the fastenings. They look almost like a seam. -
