WELLINGTON DISTRICT SYNOD
The Wellington District Synod of the Methodist Church oontinuieid its swings in Levin on iTihunsday.
Mr T. Fathers was appointed in the place of Mr E. Dawson to be District Secretary of Church Properties.
The following were apointed a District Advisory Committee to assist iihe Churoh Building and Loan Fund Committee, which latter has its headquarin Gbristchurch : Ktevs E. Drake, D. J. Murray, J. G. Chapman, and Messrs T. Fathers, E. Dawson, and W. H. Bennetft.
It was decided 1 to endorse the proposal of the Foreign Missions Committee that the allocation of a separate Foreign Mission field to New Zealand! be postponed unfal after the war, also that the appointment of the Rev W. A. Sinclair as Foreign Mission secretary be postponed to 1920.
It was recommended that the Rev. G. T. Marshall and Mr J. W. Court bo thanked for their services as Foreign Mission Fund treasurers and re-ap-pointed.
It was decided on the recommendation of a special' committee appointed by the Synod the previous day, that £8000 should be the amounfc of Foreign Mission mOney akmed at by New Zealand for 1918, and) that of this amount £I'soo be a Working Capital Fund.
The Report of the Deaconess Committee was considered by the Synod, and the proposal to abolish or make purely optional 'iihe £20 contribution paid by young .women students towards the coft of their training as deaoonesses was heartily approved by the Synod.
The ißev. F. Hands moved that Conference be askedi to seriously consider the eaiablihment of one or more Methodtiet colleges in the Dominion for the promotion of secondary education. This was carried after discussion.
In 'c.he discussion of the report of the Literature committee it was decided to recommend the printing and circulation of suitable literature for the education of young people on (ihe principles of Methodism. The Rev. H. White brought under the notice of the Synod the need for; the erection of a suitable building for religious services at Paekalkariki The Rev G. Ivnowlea Smith moved that the matter be referred to the Home Mission Committee for its very favourable consideration, and, this wats carried. The Otaki circuit was given permission to coinf j the aid of the other circuits in the district in the matter.
The Rev W. H. >E. Abbey was elected district representative to the sonrtioning committee, and the Rev A. Mcißean suhH-itute.
The following .were the amounts reported' as having boon contributed to the Foreign Mission Fund by the various circuits in the district : Taranaki street, £344 ; Central Mission, £12 ; Caijiertcn, £20 ; Eketahuna, £13 ; Masterton, £50 ; ILevin, £20 ; Otaki, £25.
The following were the Home Mission amounts recommended to be granted to the aided circuits of the district next year : Johnsonville, £40 ; SoUl'ih Wairarapa, £50 ; Eketahuna, £40 ; Otaki, £60.
It was also 'recommended that the special gnant of £1 for £1 be continued to the Otaki circuit for the increase of its minister's fl'oipendi.
The Synod closed with the eustomary votes of thanks to hosts and hostesses, the Synod officers and the Press.
