DIED A HERO'S DEATH.
■HOW Q. M. SHRGT. SAICMf WAS KELLED. Mr Saint, of Ohau, has received) a letter from France giving the circumstances in which, his son Q. M. iSergt. S. A. A. Saint was (killed. The writer, a fellow soldier, Private R. T. Coombe, s;\\o"I knew Stain well in Leviin previous- to coming to the war. We had been in four territorial camp* together. He joined up the same company as me, Wellington Wesf; Coast Company just a. few days before we went into the battle of Messines. He came through the,-Mes ines push alright. It was on the. morning of 31st July that Stan was killed. He was in our support line wy'ili 'his Platoon Xo 3, and there was a terrible strafe on, previous to making -our advance. We had boon bv tilts time about 3G hours without sleeip, etc,.lt was raining all the time and we were wet through and covered with mud. So tihe first chance we got we lay dttwn and went to sleep. It was. while s'eeping that Stan was killed b,y a tHun shell. He suffered no pain, deatlh being instantaneous. He was buried in the
line the same day with another 'Levin boy named iSciascja. They were both decently buried, the Padre being present. Tam writing yon these few lines because it relieves one's parents of a lot of anxiety concerning their lost son. iStan was liked by all who know him in the Company. iHe died a hero's death fighting for his King and Country."
Mr Saint has also received word thiat another soldier son, Corpl. S. O. Saint is at present in the Tooting Military hospital.
