FANCY DRESS BALL.
Everybody's Theatre on Thurday evening presented a charming and'animated picture, the occasion being the conclusion of the Kia Ora Assembly's dancing season. The walls were tastefully festooned with, floral devices interspersed with .bright coloured flags. At half past eight, however, the decorations wore totally eclipsed by the beautiful dress es of the ladies, good judges declaring they were exceptionally fine. Dancing was indulged in to first-class music suppliod by Miss Pink, while Miss White played some extras. An excellent supper was provided, the catering being carried out by Mr Williams and his capable staff. <■ At a convenient interval the judgihg of the fancy costumes was proceeded jvith. the judges being Mrs Plimmer for the Indies and Messrs Marco Fosella and Young, of' Wellington, the men. The judges hail a very exacting task and selected Missus Pownall, Snell, Prime and Mrs Jl. Thompson to make the final choice from. Eventually they decided upon Miss Prime, who was tastefully attired as Carmen, as the best-dressed lady. Mr Allmand, of Weraroa, carried oil" the honours amongst the men, his chamber being that of an Indian Prince. Specii.l prizes for the most.original costume- fell to Mrs H. Thompson, who wore a beautifully coloured liareui dross, and Mr A. E. Barnott, as Prince Charles. Amongst the other notable costumes wore Miss Pownall (Wellington), Prin3e Charming.; Miss Snell, 'Night ; Mrs JL Thompson, Lady of tlie Harem ; Miss Piirae, Cannon ; Miss Stansell and Mrs Jones, Early Victorians; Miss N. Williams, Peasant Girl; Mrs Moynihan, Clara iVilliains ; Mrs Mondle, Grannie ; Mrs L Hook, Indian lass ; Mrs H. ••Thompson; Miss Bennett, Belgian Lass ; Miss U, Williams, Gipsy Lass ; Miss Am- I bier, Scout; Mrs F Martin, Australian { Sport ; Mrs H. Morgan, Maori woman ; j Mrs Taylor, Night ; Mrs Edwards, i Nurse ; Miss McTaggart, French and j English ; Miss N eary, Dutch Girl ; Mrs 1 Walked and Miss Cottel, Two Little . Girls in Blue , Miss Earl, Midshipman ; j Miss rink, Eastern Lady; Miss Cla,rk, I Red C:oss Nurse. Amongst the men | were Mr E. Stansell, Charlie Chaplin ; j Messrs F. Martin and Bierre, Pierrots ; , Mr Go'dsmith, Naval Officer; Mr A. ; Karauti, Indian Rajah; Mr C. Hook, j Maori Chief ; Mr Retter, Sailor ; Mr j Domb, Returned Trooper. j A waltzing competition was held and , the judges, Messrs D. Morgan, G.' Jones ; and A'cTaggart, senr., awarded the prize ; to Miss Stansell and Mr Marsh. !
After the prizes liad been awarded ! dancing was resumed under the guid- ; ance of the capable M.C., Mr J. Ed- j wards. He and his fellow secretary, j Mr T. Winiata, did all in their power I to enrure the function being a sociable , and pleasant gathering. They fully j succeeded, and dance was voted the j mcst enjoyable of the season. j The committee . desire to thank Mr i Siegel.
