WIROKINO RIDING ELECTION.
Recently a number of ratepayers in the Wirokino riding of the Horowhenua County asked for a meeting to discuss real ot fancied grievances and consider the nomination of candidates at t.he ap • proaching elections. The meeting was given wide publicity and fixed for to-day. It was attended by three ratepayers, two County Councillors and a " Chronicle" rerresentative. None of those who demanded the meeting put in an appearance. Various reasons were advanced for their failure to attend. Some were taking advantage of the fine weather to push on with their spring sowing, so long delayed by the rain. The opinion was expressed by those who were present that there was no very serious dissatisfaction with County administration, apart from the backwardness of the work in some of the ridings. The Councillors explained, in the course of conversation, that this was a matter beyond the Council's control and consequent upon the shortage of labour. This was liable to get more acute as time went on. In view of the small attendance nothing was done in regard to the object of the meeting.
