LEVIN BOWLING CLUB.
THE LIQUOR QUESTION,
A special general meeting of the Levin Bowling Club was held in the school last evening There was a good muster of howlers present, and the President, Mr E. S. Lancaster, occupied the chair. Pour new members were electoi.
The first business was a notice of motion by Mr Bertram to raise the subscription from £2 2s to £2 10s, the reason advanced being that the Club would be in a better position to pay the proprietors of the green sufficient to insure that they would not be called upon to make up the expenses incurred in maintaining the green. Of the ten guarantors who became responsible for the green some years ago, only three are now players. After the matter had been fully discussed it was generally thought that, as there were a number of new members joining, the Club would be able to pay its way. Mr Bertram therefore withdrew his motion and it was agreed to leave the subscription as it was.
A committee consisting of Messrs Lancaster, Porteous, Pyke, Bertram, and Matheson was set up to consider waya and means of taking over the green from the proprietors.
A management committee was appointed consisting of the President, Vice-President, and Messrs Thomson, Young, and Mclntyre.
Another motion, brought forward by Mr Young, proposed to rescind the resolution passed at last meeting that no liquor be allowed on the green, and to allow members in future to keep liquor in their own lockers if they so desire. This motion caused considerable discussion and eventually it was decided to permit members to have liquor in their own lockers.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
