The funeral of the late Private RansfiaM took place at Ohau on Friday afternoon, when there was a very large attendance of both Natives and Europeans, showing the resp«ct in which he was. held. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Father Melu, and deceased was accorded a military funeral, a squad of lads from the taming farm jorming the firing party.

An accident happened at the corner of Queen street and Bartholomew read last evening to Mrs Douglas Vernon and Mrs J. vY. Thompson. The two ladies, accompanied by Miss D. Thompson (who jumped clear of the vehicle), were driving home from a church gathering, when the horse stumbled and broke the shaft of the trap, throwing the occupants out. The vehicle passed over Mrs Vernon's body and arm, the latter being badly sprained ; and Mrs Thompson was pinned under the vehicle and received a nasty cut in the ear and a profusion of minor bruises. Mr and Mrs Dotson were soon on the scene, and took them to their home, where Dr Bryson gave them prompt attention.

Messrs Maurie (2) and Priestly, of Wellington, who were probably accompanied by another, left Woodside, Wairarapi, on Saturday, intending to make a trip across the ranges to Dtaki. They travelled light, and hoped to be back in the city on Monday. When they did not return up to Tuesday morning, some anxiety was felt by their Mends, and as no news could be obtained as to their whereabouts, on either side of the ranges. Messrs Beaglehole and Vosseler, of Wellington, decided on Tuesday evening to set out in search for the missing mea. However, just prior to their starting, a telegram arrived, stating that the men had arrived back at Woodside.

'' Ted'' Blaney, of Hawcra, went Home about a couple of years ago to learn aviation. From the beginning lie did remarkably well with aeroplane work; ho soon got his ticket at the Military Flying School, and then went over to France. He was there made a flight-lieutenant, and latest advices indicate that he has been, promoted to the rank of captain, commanding a raiding squadron.
