The Government Meteorologist telegraphs : The indications are for variable and strong bveezes, but easterly moderate to strong prevailing. Expect dull weather with rain probable. Barometer has a falling tendency. Condemnation of tempcranee bars at hotels is uttered in reports received by the Victorian State Ministry from police superintendents throughout the State. The reports (says Melbourne "Age") state that such bars act as "blinds" for illicit trading in intoxicants, and the police further dcclare that the circumstances of such trading make it next to impossible to secure satisfactory evidence for successful prosecutions. In view of these statements, Mr D. Smith asked the Premier in tho Legislative Assembly recently if ho would give Parliament the opportunity before the session closed to consider the Act with the idea of repealing the temperance bar provisions. The Premier said he would have all the report summarised for the consideration of members. He could not, however, agree to' the matter coming before Parliament at present ,as it would involve the reconsideration of the whole of the Act. The Ministry's policy in respect to licensing reform would be disclosed in his policy speech.
