Considerable batches of prisoners are coming in. The Admiralty reports that despite bad weather naval aircraft dropped many bombs on Sparappeihook aerodrome yesterday. All returned. Swarms of Aeroplane Machine Gunners. Received this day, at 9-40 a.m. London, October 12 The battlefront extends six miles south from Houthulst wood. Everything is going well and at noon the troops were within the shortest distance of Passchendaele. It is too early to estimate the number of prisoners. The fighting continues vigorously. Aeroplanes are swooping up and down in swarms at low altitude, freely machine-gunning the enemy infantry. 'Ihe French did not participate in the attack. The rain ceased at dawn. Heavy clouds hung low, but the visibility was fair. Enemy artillery was active during the night on the central and southern portions of the battlefront, especially at Broodseinde ridge, Anzac ridge, and Roulers' railway, putting over a considerable number of gas shells.
