BOWLING.
OPENING OF OTAK.I GREEN,
Seven Levin bowlers—Messrs Lancaster (President), Beading, Holdaway, Dean, Tait, Young and Aplin— journeyed to Otaki on Wednesday to take part in the opening of the Otaki green, which was favoured with fine though threatening weather. Dr Huthwaite welcomed the visitors and declared the green open for play.
The rink skipped by Reading beat Satherley's team by 22—21, and Lancaster's team lost to Bills's rink by 27—13. The green was in splendid order except that it was a little heavy.
Lively and appropriate music was played during the whole of the afternoon by the Misses Cooksley (piano and violin). An excellent afternoon tea was provided by the Otaki ladies and everything possible was done to make the afternoon enjoyable.
At the conclusion of play, Mr Lancaster, on behalf of the Levin Club, thanked the Otaki Club for the very excellent way in which the visitors had been entertained, and three hearty cheers were given for the attentions and thonghtfulness of the ladies. Jn conclusion, a hearty invitation was extended to the down-the-line players to attend the opening of ' the Levin green on October 22.
Mr Oliver, President of the home club, briefly ac nowledged the visitors' appreciation and said it had been a great pleasure to have them present. His club hoped to visit Levin very shortly
