HOROWHENUA A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING IN LEVIN.

The annual meeting of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association was held at the Foresters' Hall on Saturday. The President, Mr W. Tompsitt (Otaki), occupied the chair, and 30 members were present. On Mr J. McLeavy's motion, seconded by Mr Blenkhorn, the following new members were elected: —Messrs S. Lawrence (Ohau), J. M. Richar is (Ihakara), Howard Andrews (Manakau), J. Smith (Paekakariki), F. Christensen (Ohau). CORRESPONDENCE. The Railway Department notified the Association that in future all concessions for shows in the nature of holiday excursion, judges (or other ttckets) had been withdrawn. In addition, no special provision would be made in regard to additional or altered train service. The Department would, however, put on extra car accommodation up to the limit of the haulage capacity of one engine on the ordinary trains. Arrangements would be made to forward show stock by the ordinary services, but, in special ca ®® s > where the ordinary trains were unsuitable, no objection would be offered to special facilities for the conveyance of stock, provided a full load was offering and that the Department's working limits of ten or twelve hours were not exceeded. xCeferred to the Committee. The Fielding A. and P. Association notified that it had selected February sth and 6th for its shew. ' RESIGNATIONS. Mr Norman Kirkcaldie wrote tendering his resignation from the Society during the continuance of the war. Mr Douglas Gardner, Koputaroa, wrote resigning as a member, owing to leaving the district. He stated he appreciated the honour of having been a member of the Association since its formation. He wished the Association every success. . The President said he felt very sorry Mr Kirkcaldie had taken the step, for he had been of very great assistance to the Association. Mr J. McLeavy moved that both resignations be accepted with regret. Both o-en'lemen had served the Association well, and Mr Kirkcaldie had been of exceptional assistance in financial matters. Mr Blenkhorn suggested that Mr Kirkcaldie's letter be held over pending a person al interview with him, with the object of obtaining a withdrawal of his resignation. The President said he would be very glad to make one of a deputation, as Mr Kirkcaldie was a very useful member who they could not afford to lose. Mr G. H. Kingdon said he very sorry that Mr Kirkcaldie was withdrawing, but he was only carrying the resolution he had come to last year. Mr McLeavy's motion was carried, with the omission of Mr Kirkcaldie's name. Messrs Kingdon, McLeavy, Blenkharn and Tompsitt were appointed a deputation to wait on Mr Kirkcaldie anci ask bim to withdraw his resignation. It was decided to write to Mr Gardner, expressing the Association's appreciation of his valued services.

REPORT AND BALANCE-SHEET. The President read the report, which has already been published. He said he was very sorry thsy had not come up to last year's standard, but the excuses were contained in the report. He would be sorry to see the Show fall through on that account. He presumed it would again be held for patriotic purposes, and there was no reason why they might not do as well as before. The district warranted It, and then perhaps after the war it would be possible to launch out. On the motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr Goldsmith pointed out that Mr Kirkcaldie gave the Association £100 last year on the clear understanding that it should be handed over to the patriotic society, merely going through the Association's hands in order to swell the profits. It seemed to him that that money should be handed over for the specific purpose for which it was intended. It was true that the Association resulted in a loss of about £5 011 the year's working, but they had money in hand, and it was only right that they should hand over the £100 as was intended. Then there was some £30 of prize money handed back by winners, who no doubt expected that these prizes would go to patriotic funds, and so long as the Association had money in hand, he contended they should keep faith with those who had returned their prize money.

The Secretary, Mr Wallace, said that Mr Kirkcaldie certainly made the stipulation that eventually his donation should go to the patriotic fund, and that if the show was not a success lhe Association would make up the difference. Mr Blenkhorn suggested subscribing the deficiency in the room, and offered £1 towards it. Mr Kingdon agreed with Mr Goldsmith's views. Mr J. Kebbell also endorsed Mr Goldsmith's remarks in regard to the /100, but pointed out that ever since the inception of the Society winners of prizes had been in the habit of returning them, and they did tkis to help the Association. They should also remember that £44 had been raised at the show for the bullock-guess-ing competition that, in ordinary circumstances, would have gone to the Association, but that was given to Nurse Lewis' ambulance fund.

Mr Goldsmith urged that the meeting should dispose of the matter before it passed the balance-sheet. The President thereupon moved that a sum of £100 be handed over to the County Patriotic Fund, the balance being made up out of the A. and P. funds. MrTully seconded the motion, which was carried. McLeavy seconded, that the profits from the show be given to the Horowhonua County Patriotic Fund, and this was carried.
