PATRIOTIC PICTURE BENEFIT.
Everybody's was crowded to overflowing for the patriotic picture benefit last night, and it was an appreciative audience which. followed the splendid programme provided. The proprietors spared no effort to make the function a success. They offered a prize to the lad selling the most tickets a and this was won by Ronnie Connor, who received a volume of " Chums." ' During an interval the' Mayor (Mr C. Blenkhorh) thanked the proprietors for their efforts on be; half of the Patriotic Assopiation's funds. He stressed the personal pains which Mr Siegel had taken to make the entertainment a success and also urged the claims of the Association to the consideration of everyone preseiit. Mr Blenkhorn pointed out that although the funds were beiiig augmented at a satisfactory rate there was still need of effort before the funds would be of such proportions as would enable them adequately to serve the the purpose for which they were intended. "He pointed out also that a donation of '5s was sufficient to confer membership on the donor, carrying with it the right to vote at general meetings , and„so have a say in the irianagement. The proposed carnival was mentioned also by the Mayor, who expressed the hope that a large sum would be realised.
The Mayor wishes to .thank Mr Farland for closing his theatre and also the Levin band which under the baton of Mr (George Davison, played acceptably prior to the entertainment. ;
