BOWLING.
Shannon Bowling Club opened the season yesterday. Foxton, and Levin bowlers were present. The games were well contented. The Shannon ladies entertained the visitors at afternoon tea.
The Government Meteorologist telegraphs to-day ; — Indications are for variable and moderate breezes, with westerly winds. Expect changeable and showery weather for several days.
A Sydney cable announces the death of Rev. Donald McLennan, Presbyterian, formerly of New Zealand.
Mrs Frevberg, of Wellington, has received official information that her son, Brigs-.dier - General Freyberg, Y.C., D.5.0., was wounded on September 2i by a gunshot in the chest and left thigh, and that the wound is of a severe nature. Last evening a cable message was received by Mrs Freyberg from her son, Cuthbert Freyberg, which states that Brigadier-General Freyberg is in a London military hospital, and is doing well.
A deputation of Auckland women members of the First Division Leaguo of Mothers is about to go to Wellington to interview the authorities on the subject of pensions to mothers, as provided in the new Bill. At a meeting held on Monday in the Chamber of Commerce, a resolution was passed demanding to know that as it proves safe enough for wounded men and officers for commissions to arrive safely in New Zealand, why it is not considered safe for the Main Body to return.
