SALE OF WORK.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
The ladies of the Levin Methodist Church held a very successful sale of work yesterday afternoon and evening. In the afternoon especially there was a large attendance, and good business was done. Although the weather was unfavourable in the evening satisfactory results were secured, and the ladies have every reason to feel that their work was not in vain. Musical items during the evening assisted to make the time pass pleasantly, those assisting being Miss Best (piano), Miss Frechling (piano), and Miss Andrews (violin). Mrs Mellor's pathephone also contributed some fine selections. Various competitions under the control of Mr F. J. Walkley, brought grist to the mill and entertainment to the onlookers. The ladies' sawing contest was won by Miss Connie Parsons in twelve seconds, and Mr Watkins was the winner of the men's contest in thirteen seconds. The nail-driving competition (ladies) was won by Miss Astridge, and the men's by Mr Crawford. The Young Women's Guild rendered valuable assistance in the conduct of the sale.
The following helpers were in charge of the various stalls and | other attractions: Young Ladies' Guild Stall, Miss Astridge and Guild members. Plain Stall, Mesdames Kirk, Watkins, Mellor and Goldsmith. Fish Pond, Mrs R. Prouse's class. Miss Sedcole's Sweet Stall, Misses Doris Andrews, Mabel Parsons, Alma Sims, Doris Thompson, and L. Hook.
