Norse wood livestock sale. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Datiuevirke, report holding their fortnightly sale at tlieir Norsewood yards on Monday. 27th inst..:—We }-arded a entry of both sheep and cattle to a large number of keen buyers. Five pens of good springing heifers met with keen competition. We quote : —Cuttle : Bulls £4 to £8, empty cows £5 10s to £7, fat heifers to Cll, 2yr springing heifers £0 125,6 d to £14 2s 6d. Rhocp : Hoggets 28s, t>.f. hoggets (good line) 275, ompty ewes 16s o<i to 245.

LONDON MARKETS. From Mr C. U. Pyke, Levin manager of the Hank of Now Zealand, the Chronicle is in receipt of tho bank's latest circular dated London, July 2nd : — Wool.—hi view of the Government control of this commodity and consequent entire absence of the usual market conditions there is no special feature to leport. Hemp.—ln the absence of offers from tho Dominion business is practically at a standstill. Values are purely nominal: Good fair £86 to £87, high points fair £85 to £85 10s, fair £84 to £84 10s. Butter.—Tiieru is very little change to report regarding the general condition ot the butter market. 0< nsumption is by, no means up to the normal standard, the inquiry for many weeks past being very limited, the chief reason apart from the'competition of home supplies being undoubtedly the curtailed consumption of bread throughout the country. Increasing supplies of the home product caused a general reduction in prices for all imported butters, but at the moment an improved demand is showing itself, and holders are making rather better prices for Australian and New Zealand, more particularly for the linest grades.

Cheese —There is practically no cheese market, trade being more or less at a standstill. The Government are about to release considerable' quantities of Canadiau, Now Zealand; Australian and States cheese fjr consumption by tho civilian population aud by their iustruetions it will be distributed through the channel of importers, wholesalers aud retailers, and Is 4d per lb retail is to be the flat rate throughout the United Kingdom.

Current prices :—-New Zealand butter, 186s to 194s per cwt, unsalted 192 a 190s per cwt.
