A fascinating lecture, illustrated by maps and sketches on ".Mesopotamia," will bo given in the Century 'Hall, Levin, on Tuesday at 8 p.m. by Mr J. T. Nott who has a dominion reputation as a lecturer. This ancient land lias imuch to tell the explorer and student. Mr Nfott lias made a study of -Bagdad, and its environs, and he will give what ought to prove an instructive address. 'Ku charge for admission will bo Is, and as the netire proceeds are to be demoted to the 'Methodist Oiaplains 'Fund, there should bo a. good response on the part of the public.
The public muste'red well at the entertainment given in the King's Theatre, Levin, on Thursday night bv the Maori Patriotic Society. 'Hie entertainment was on novel lines, and an enjoyalble dance followed. The proceeds will be given to the Maori Soldiers' Fund. The gross taking amounted to £40 18s 9id. The Maori executive desires to return thanks to all European friends who assisted to make the function a success. The receipts from all sources totalled £-10 18s 9Jd.
The latest list of wounded soldiers contains the names of Privates C. C. Jennings, Levin, and Pi L. Hum, c-: \ r s r a kan.
Mrs C. S. Keedwell and Mrs G. P. Brown were in charge of the ißed Cross Shop, Levin, last Saturday, when the receipts for the day totalled £12 2s 6d. A valuable donation of two turkeys was made by iMr. Guv Kingdon, and two little girls, Gracie Prime and Maggie White, helped to swell the day's takings by selling violets kindly provided for them by Mr Marr yatt; and also by getting entries for the '"dinner competition." Thfif> competition was won by Mr. Lindsay Mc/Drnald. Tho "nail gu-essinar competition was concluded, iMrs F. W. Ramsden were the appellants, and tliey were srupported by their employer, N. C. Holdaway. Ramsden was granted leave nntil 18th September j and decision in (Patifcon's case was reserved.
