STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER IX THE HOUSE OF REPRESN'ETATIVES. In the House this week, Mr W. H. (Field, M.P., asked the Right! Don. the Prime Minister "Whether, as representing the Government as a whole, he will, without further delay, cable the Imperial iGovernment reiterating our unswerving determination, if necessary, to continue sending the reinforcements promised by us so long as we have avialable men who are. ftt and not vitallyneeded for essential industries here, but pointing out that the increasing drain on our industries is scucli that a continuance of it wdl so materially lessen production in this country as to seriously affect our power to-meet our taxation and other obligations, and generally create distress; and fiirther inquiring whether the Imperial authorities will not now he satisfied with - our turning our attention rathir to production thm the supply of men for the Jiring-line?
The Rt. Hon. Mr Massey (Prime Minister) relied: The Imperial Government fully understand thei position in .New Zealand both from the point of view of reinforcements "and food-supplies. They alsp knew that the people of this dominion can be depended upop to' leave nothing undone that will assist in winning the war.
