The many friends of Surgeon-Cap-tain H. A. Davies, formerly of Levin, will be gf.ad to hear that he has recovered from his recent illness and is. now in charge of the new military hospital -at Torquay. England. Before taking up his appointment, Dr. IXavies and Mrs (Davies, with several other New Zealanders. were presented to the King and Queen, at Windsor Castle. Closer settlement was referred to in the House of .Representatives tins week, when 'Mr. W. H. Field, M.P. asked the Minister of Lands what progress has been made in the direction of acquiring land in the Otaki, Levin and Foxton districts for returned jsoldiers settlements? The 'Rt. Hon. Mr Masseyi replied: 'Inquiries are being made re a block near Otaki, but the Department 'has been disappointed regarding a block near Levin. A portion of the property referred to is to be disposed of privately. The matter is not being lost sight of.
