THE LIGHTING QUESTION.
(To the Editor). Sir.—The members of the 'lighting committee', by a stroke of diplomacy, have gained their point, but they have also proved a total absence of esthetics and busiinass acumen. The removal of tho two southern pedestal lamps to be substituted by four side lamps will result in a costlyi experiment. The pleas of "public safety" and "the rejection of a vastly superior business proposition to retain something merely artistic" are simply absurd. Tho lamps have been erected seven years and not only ha.ve given satisfaction but are an ornament to. tho town and .admired by all visitors. Do not the members of the lighting committee consider that anything that tends to make the town attractive is a valuable asset. In tho past sonio resolutions have been shelved for some unaccountable reason. Tt will not be tho same now, because the gas manager will not lose time in giving a start to his pet scheme. — I nm, etc., Marco fosella.
