£fhr press association.] PAP'EIR SHORTAGE. Hokitika, June 1. An arrangement has been made whereby an amalgamation of the "iiokitika Guardian" and the "West Coast Times" newspapers has been made. In consequence, from to-morrow, the "Times" suspends publication. The reason for suspension is the shortage of paper, and the difficulty in obtaining supplies. The "Times" lias been circulating in the district for fifty-two years, and is th'e oldest established daily paper on the Coast. The proprietors announce that the suspension is probably only for the duration of the war. SERIOUS FLOODS AT THE TAIERI. Dunedin, This Day. Floods waters in the Taieri Plain are going down very slowly and tiio length of time during which the land will be submerged will be a serious matter for winter feed, especially turnip and 'mangel crops. Damage by flood and loss of stock will be more serious than was anticipated. At Kaitangata last night it was found necessary toi Wow up an old lock to let the water away, but this did not give much relief. Part of the main road was washed away, and some of the townships are partially isolated. Railway communication cannot be restored until the water recedes considerably.
