A fire destroyed the new pier jetty and a fit ore at Townsville, destroying vessels and cargo, and: causing damp,go estimated at between £50,000 and £100,000. GERMANS REPULSED. A French .communique reports that a strong Gorman 'reconnaissance in attempting to reach our lines at various points broke down under the French fire, with important losses.
