Polling for tlie election of nine counculloi'iS to ;constitute Levin |Bor>ouglv Council wiil take place tomorrow, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. The polling booth will be at the municipal offices, Oxford street, Levin, and Mr J3. R-. Gardener, Town Clerk, will be the returning officer.

•Six racehorses from Levin, were at Levin railway station ,on Saturday ■morning, to be taken to. Palmerston North in readiness for next Wednesday's /raoes.' The horses, however, did not go forward, as the Palmerston races have been postponed indefinitely, in consequence of disorganisation of the railway service through the coalminers' strike.

Levin Bowling Club is to close the current season on Wednesday next.

Mr Thomas 'Broome, of Weraroa, who is offering himself for election on Levin Borough Council lias an advertisement on page 3 in form of an address to the burgesses. Mr Broome is a successful business man, and he promises to do his best to safeguard the interest of ratepayers while endeavouring to make the town and district still more progressive.

One of the most successful dances ever held in Ohau liall took place on Thursday last, the occasion being the "send-off" of two of Chan's most popular residents—viz., Tore 'Hfrwia and Joe ißansfield. About sixty couple graced the floor. The arrangements were in the capable hands of Mr Karauti and his committee, and everything went without a hitch. Excellent music was supplied. Mr J. Edwards, of Levin, carried out the duties of M.C. in a capable manner. A firstclass supper was handed round by the committee, and dancing was carried on until the small hours of the morning. The local schoolmaster made a feeling and impressive speech. He had been teacher cf the departing settlers in their younger days, and he spoke of their sterling qualities.

Amongst the latest who have enlisted at Levin for active service are Messrs J. B. D'Ath (Manakau), and I?-. G. Staveley (Levin) for 30tli Reinforcements ; also J. W. 'Bason (Ihakara) and S. J. Palmer (Ohau) for 31st draft.

'Mr. F. G. Roe, a candidate for-muni-cipal honors, lias an address to Levin burgesses in our advertising columns to-day. Mr. Roe has been a resident of Levin continuously since 1888, and always lias taken a. close interest in all matters directed to tlie advancement of Levin, though hitherto lie lias not offered himself for municipal honors.

A painful and serious accident befell a daughter of Mr and Mrs Gor-don-Glassford, of Ihakara. "Wliile on a visit to the Wairarapa she fell from a height and broke both her arms, one just above the wrist and the other a little below the elbow.

The final match for the Championship Singles of Levin Bowling Club was played yesterday. The contestants were J. Mclntyre and W. Ingram. After an interesting game, Ingram won the heat (and the championship) by 14 points to 8.

Anzac Day will be honored in .Levin to-morrow, when a parade of the local troops will take place and a memorial service will be held. The service will begin at 2 p.m., and during its progress speeches of a patriotic nature will be made bv prominent visitors to Levin.

Private J. Perry, son of Mr J. Perry, of Koputaroa, recently was reported as missing. The latest active service list contains the satisfactory information that Private Perry is not missing. The men of the 29th Reinforcements who are duo to leave .Levin nest week (Monday) are being provided with a public "send-off" at the Century Hall next Friday evening. One of the biggest and brightest programs ever put on is being provided for the occasion by a number of leading Wellington entertainers, who will make a special trip for the occasion. A complete list of performers is not yet available, but through ]\lr. Ken. Ait-ken's efforts a splendid array o; talent is being secured.. So 'sir. Miss St. John with her songs at the p-ano and Miss Tlielma Aitken (the c'.c-ver little juvenile performer) have signified their attention of appearing. Further particulars will be announce! 'i next issue of The Chronicle. The public can rest assured that they are going to get good five shillings' worth for one.

Otaki Licensing Committee will hold its next quarterly meeting—which also will be the annual meeting of tho committee on Friday, Ist June, at noon. Details are advertised to-day.
